The two littel devils and how they came to be...
When Carrie and I first met one of the most important things that she have with her on this “great expedition” was her long time friend and companion, a cat named Maynard. Maynard is a very sweet and loving creature, she doesn’t ask much of us just a clean sandbox and some food, but what she gives in return is immeasurable.
Things went just fine with her as she learned her new surroundings and slowly laid claim to our humble house. She went about her business and us ours. Every now and then when she was in a particularly needy mood she would let you know by “talking” rather loudly and succinct at you in the room. Or when we needed a warm companion to talk to she would curl up and listen.
Now over time we decided that not only did Mike needed a cat of his own but Maynard also needed a friend to play with when we were not around. This is how the whirling dervish named Gaz came into our world.
We were driving around one afternoon and decided on a whim, ( this is how most decisions are made between us…very spontaneous) that we would get a cat. And so the search was on. We looked at every pet store and every shelter that was open, nope everyone wanted way too much money for a cat. Then we came across an ad in our local paper talking about a 6 month old kitten that needed a home.
Perfect! We thought, she’s already box trained. Also Maynard has a thing about small kittens, she doesn’t like them. When we went to pick her up Gaz was the cutest little black and white thing you have ever seen.
For the first week or so the two did not even look at each other except to growl and hiss. Then slowly but surely they became friends.
That was 2 months ago, now our house is constantly filled with the sounds of mischief and troublemaking. I’m not sure which of the two instigates the tomfoolery but I have my guesses, (rhymes with “spaz”). Anyway we now have two little kitties that love us as much as we love them and they, like most cats think that this house is theirs and we are just mere guests. I guess that they make up for it by cuddling with us when we need it most and crying hello when we come home. These are our cats, our friends, the things what crash in the night. Maynard and Gaz.
